"Who is she that comes forth as the morning rising,
fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in battle array?" - Song of Songs 6:10
See, I am sending an angel before you, to guard you on the way and bring you to the place I have prepared. Be attentive to him and obey him. Do not rebel against him, for he will not forgive your sin. My authority is within him. Exodus 23:20-21
Psalm 91:11 states, “The Lord has put angels in charge of your, to guard you in all your ways.” So, each of us has one and it’s fitting that we converse with them often throughout the day. They are not imaginative or fantasy figure. They are pure spiritual creatures of God. They have no bodies. “Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life.” said St. Basil the Great. Our angel reflects God loving providence. They assist us navigating through life’s journey. In his homily on the Memorial of the Guardian Angels, October 2, 2015, Pope Francis asked the congregations to reflect on the following questions which we can ask ourselves today.
How is my relationship with my guardian angel?
Do I listen to him?
Do I say good morning to him in the morning?
Do I ask him: Watch over me when I sleep?’
Do I speak with him?
Do I ask his advice?
Take time to converse with your Guardian Angel throughout your day and night, tell your Guardian Angel specifically what your needs are and put them to work.
Holy Guardian Angel (feast On October 2)
Dear Angel at my side, my good and loyal friend, you have been with me since the moment I was born. You are my own personal guardian, given me by God as my guide and protector, and you will stay with me till I die. He who created you and me gave me to you as your particular charge. You assisted in great joy at my baptism, when I became part of the Mystical Body of Christ, and was made a member of the household of God and an heir of heaven. You saw the dangers that beset my path, and, if I sinned, it was in spite of you. You envied me when Christ came to me in Holy Communion. Even though you probably were there among the angels that adored Him the night that He was born, you have not been able to receive Him as I can. O, help me to appreciate these gifts! Help me to realize, as you do, with every fiber of my being, that to serve Christ is to be a King! Help me steadfastly to avoid evil and do good and always guard my soul from sin. Protect me as well from physical evils as I go about my daily work. You will be with me all my life, and at the hour of my death. Help me to face death bravely, patiently, with great love of God, knowing that it is only through death that I can come to Him in heaven! Then, come with me to my Judge, and when the hour of my salvation comes, take me home to my Father, God. Amen (Catholic Online Prayer)
Peace in Christ,
