"Who is she that comes forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in battle array?" - Song of Songs 6:10
The rules for the membership of the Legion of Mary are very organized and clear. In the very beginning, it says: The Legion of Mary is open to all Catholics. This gives us a very clear message, that is, this organization opens her arms to welcome all the Catholics to join in, and it is noticeable that this is not a closed, narrow minded, and an exclusive organization. When we are baptized “into Christ,” we all received priestly, prophetic, and kingly mission, and therefore, we all equipped with following characteristics if we desired to be part of the Legion of Mary.
faithfully practice our religion;
are animated by the desire to fulfil their role in the Church’s apostolate through membership of the Legion;
are prepared to fulfil each and every duty which active membership of the Legion involves.
Therefore, as sons and daughters of God, and as followers of Jesus like mother Mary, we are to live according to a certain way to practice the religion.
Talking about faithfully practice the religion, we would normally answer that if we attend mass, recite rosary, read the Scriptures, say the prayers, and help the needy regularly, we are faithfully practicing the religion. Yes, indeed, but I also like the idea of using our lives to answer God’s calling, just as St. Paul said in the book of Ephesians: “So be imitators of God, as beloved children,” for faithfully practicing the religion.
I am not sure how many people has the book of “The Theology of the Apostolate”? It is worth to have one, if you haven’t have one yet, you can google and get an electronic copy. I encourage everyone to read it since it contains a remarkable exposition of the principles which govern the Christian apostolate.
Talk about the Christian apostolate, the mission of the Legion of Mary is to sanctify ourselves and others. The former is centered on Christ and walks the path of perfection through Bible study, prayer, sacrament, retreat, weekly meeting, work, etc.; the latter works through evangelization to make the world know Christ and share his salvation.
So, my dear sisters and brothers, since we, are already the Legionaries, humbly we receive the grace of the Holy Spirit through the humility of Virgin Mary, only with the help and inspiration of the Holy Spirit can we sanctify ourselves. For this reason, we must pray, devote ourselves and love one another to sanctify each other so to fulfill the Legionary Promise we had said before. Amen.
